A Seafaring Adventure: From Limestone Boats to Freeport, Maine and Beyond

Introduction:

Embarking on a journey to pick up a boat made by the renowned Limestone Boat Company is not just a routine task; it's the beginning of an adventure. Setting off at the break of dawn, precisely at 4:30 a.m. from Rothesay, New Brunswick, my destination was Freeport, Maine. Join me as I reminisce on this picturesque road trip where I traversed the scenic Airline Rd in Maine, explored the rich military history of Brunswick, soaked in the charm of Freeport, and experienced the unique thrill of crossing the border from Canada to the U.S. and back with commercial goods in tow.

The Scenic Airline Rd:

As the sun rose, casting a warm glow on the landscape, the journey along the Airline Rd in Maine became a visual feast. This winding road took me through dense forests, quaint villages and open fields, offering breathtaking views of nature's untouched beauty. The vibrant foliage in the fall and the crisp air in the spring make the Airline Rd an enchanting passage that added an extra layer of magic to my expedition.

Rich Military History of Brunswick, Maine:

My adventure took an intriguing turn as I reached Brunswick, Maine, to pick up some fiberglass molds made by Varney CNC.  A town steeped in military history and home to the Brunswick Naval Air Station, this town has played a pivotal role in the defense of the Nation. As I drove through, I caught glimpses of historic landmarks and reminders of the sacrifices made by those who served. Take a moment to appreciate the proud legacy of Brunswick's military history before continuing on my journey to Freeport.

Charming Freeport, Maine:

Arriving in Freeport felt like stepping into a postcard-perfect New England town. Famous for its outlet shopping and quaint streets lined with charming boutiques, Freeport is a destination in itself. After arriving at Dimillio’s Yacht Sales and giving the Limestone a wrap before transport, I quickly headed back North. Although I didn’t get any time to explore, I most certainly will be back to take some time to discover the vibrant downtown area, indulge in local cuisine, take a boat tour and perhaps visit the iconic L.L.Bean flagship store. Freeport encapsulates the essence of Maine's coastal charm and was a delightful stop on my road trip.

Crossing Borders: Canada to the U.S. and Back:

As I wrapped up my day in Freeport, the adventure did not end – it took an international twist. Crossing the border from Canada to the U.S. and back added a unique dimension to my journey. Thankfully, the crossing was seamless thanks to Raymond Sherma of Cole International, who had all the documentation ready for me. My only loss was my midmorning snack; an orange that the custom’s officer confiscated after reminding me it was illegal to bring produce across the border.

Conclusion:

Picking up a boat for the Limestone Boat Company became more than a transaction; it transformed into a memorable adventure. From the scenic Airline Rd to the military history of Brunswick, the charm of Freeport, and the international crossing between Canada and the U.S., this road trip was a blend of natural beauty, history, and cultural experiences. It also served as a good reminder to embrace the journey, soak in the surroundings, and let the road unveil the stories waiting to be discovered.
